It's out! Our Hero! First Definitive Edition is available now

Table of Contents

Where to get it

You can find the game on Steam, itch.io, and GameJolt.

The Steam version includes two exclusive extras:

  • šŸ† 25 Steam Achievements waiting to be unlocked
  • ā˜ļø Steam Cloud to automatically sync your saves across devices

Don’t have Steam? No problem! The game is available on itch.io and GameJolt for both Windows and Linux, with the exact same features, the same quality, and the same price: free.

Our Hero! First

Is it worth playing (again)?

Yes, and I’m not just saying that because I made it šŸ˜„

This isn’t a simple patch or a cosmetic update: it’s a complete overhaul of the original game. New sprites, new animations, dramatically improved performance, reworked mechanics. If you’ve already played it, it’ll feel like a brand new title. If you’ve never tried it, now is the perfect time to do it!

Moreover, it runs about 3 hours: just the right length for a weekend session!

And if you play it and enjoy it, I have one small ask: leave a review, or update the one you wrote in the past.

For an indie developer, every single review makes a huge difference, not just for visibility, but for the motivation to keep going. And there’s still plenty of work ahead, because…

What’s next?

Next goal: Steam Deck Verified

Steam Deck support is already in place, but I want to earn the official ā€œVerifiedā€ badge for Our Hero! First. I’ll be working on that over the next few days.

Our Hero! Two: already in the works

I’ll now shift focus to the next chapter of the trilogy. This time the approach will be gradual. No waiting months for a single monolithic release:

  1. First release: mkxp-z integration → HD support, Windows, Linux, and Steam Deck available right away
  2. Follow-up updates: reworked mechanics, new character art, Steam Achievements

The good news is that most of the work done for Our Hero! First is already reusable and can be adapted for the next two games in much less time.

Without making promises I can’t keep (but with reasonable optimism) I’m aiming to complete the Definitive Edition of Our Hero! Two and Our Hero! Omega in about one month per game. Two months, and the trilogy will be complete. šŸ‘€

We’ll see how it goes. I’ll give it everything I’ve got!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has followed along, waited patiently, tested the game, and left a comment or a review. It truly means a lot.

See you in the next update! :3
