Here is a project very close to home: the website for Pizzeria 5 Archi, an authentic craft pizzeria in the historical center of Vasto (Abruzzo).
If you love genuine Italian pizza, this place is special: 48-hour slow dough fermentation, a roaring wood-fired oven cooking pizzas in 90 seconds, and incredible local ingredients like artisanal ventricina vastese and caciocavallo.
Why Most Restaurant Sites Frustrate Me
We’ve all experienced it: you’re hungry on your phone, click a restaurant link, and get hit with a 5-second loading spinner, a giant unreadable PDF menu, or megabytes of heavy client scripts just to show opening hours.
My goal for Pizzeria 5 Archi was the exact opposite: make it fast, warm, and effortless for hungry guests to browse the menu and book a table or takeaway (asporto).
How I Built It
I built the site with Astro and TypeScript:
- Zero JS Overhead: Generates pure static HTML and CSS. No bulky framework runtimes shipped to the user’s phone, paired with smooth native scroll animations.
- Editorial & Tactile Aesthetic: Warm cream backgrounds, charcoal text, and ember-orange accents that evoke wood fire and stone arches, using self-hosted fonts (Cormorant Garamond & Source Sans 3).
- Optimized Visuals via Sharp: Appetite appeal is essential, so all food and oven imagery is automatically processed into responsive modern WebP formats with zero layout shifts.
- Local SEO & Rich Schema: Built-in
Schema.org/Restaurantstructured data so Google immediately understands opening hours, cuisine types, and geolocation. - One-Tap Action: Instant click-to-call buttons for reservations, straightforward allergen disclosures, and quick menu browsing.
